                                                      GINGIVITIS

your mouth is real marker of your over all body system . bleeding , redness in gums , bacterial accumulation could be due to local factor or systemic like diabetis , HIV positive , hormunal diseases aor cancer ...
Have you  "notice red, swollen, gums that bleed easily",,,that is known as Gingivitis .GINGIVITIS is the Inflamation of gums (gingiva)

Gingivitis is usually caused when plaque and bacteria accumulate
on the gums, generally due to poor oral hygiene. A patient with gingivitis will have red and puffy gums that will likely bleed when he or she brushes or flosses

What is gingivitis?

Gingivitis is gum inflammation and, when left untreated, can progress to more serious stages of periodontal disease, such as periodontitis. Plaque accumulates in the areas between the teeth, which inflame the gums. Even though gums are irritated, gum recession does not occur until later stages of periodontal disease. Gingivitis is a warning sign from the teeth and gums that you must be more proactive about your oral hygiene routine. There is also no irreversible bone damages during gingivitis. This makes it important for those diagnosed with gingivitis to visit our office for a routine dental cleaning that can remove this plaque and restore your oral health

what are the causes of gingivitis ?

  • smoking or chewing tobacco
  • diabetes
  • consuming certain medications such as oral contraceptives, steroids, anticonvulsants, calcium channel blockers, and chemotherapy
  • crooked teeth
  • dental appliances that fit poorly
  • broken fillings
  • pregnancy
  • genetic factors
  • compromised immunity such as with HIV/AIDS
  •
  •  what are the symptoms of gingivitis?
  • gums that are red, tender, or swollen
  • gums that bleed when you brush or floss your teeth
  • gums that have pulled away from the teeth
  • pain when chewing
  • sensitive teeth
  • foul-smelling breath that doesn’t go away after you brush your teeth
  • During a dental exam, your gums will be probed with a small ruler. This probing is a way to check for inflammation. It also measures any pockets around your teeth. A normal depth is 1 to 3 millimeters. Your dentist may also order X-rays to check for bone loss.

Talk to your dentist about risk factors for gum disease as well as your symptoms. This can help diagnose your gingivitis. If gingivitis is present, you may be referred to a general Dentist . If it advanced to loosing tooth , this is the case of periodontitis ...refer the patient to periodontist ..

  • You must practice proper oral hygiene to treat gingivitis. You should also cut back on any smoking, if you smoke, and manage your diabetes. Other treatments include:

    • deep cleaning your teeth
    • antibiotic medications
    • surgery

    Cleaning teeth

There are several techniques that can be used to deep clean your teeth without surgery. They all remove plaque and tarter to prevent gum irritation:

    • Scaling removes tartar from above and below the gum line.
    • Root planing smooths rough spots and removes plaque and tartar from the root surface.
    • Lasers may remove tartar with less pain and bleeding than scaling and root planing.

    Medications

A number of medications can be used to treat gum disease:

    • Antiseptic mouthwash containing chlorhexidine can be used to disinfect the mouth.

    • Oral antibiotics can be used to treat persistent areas of gum inflammation.
